When did GDPR start?

GDPR became officially enforceable on 25th May 2018 across all EU countries. It had actually been adopted earlier, back on 27th April 2016, giving companies a two-year window to adjust their data handling practices to meet the new standards. This new regulation replaced the older Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and brought in tougher rules aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and the way personal data is processed. Organisations were expected to overhaul their data management systems within those two years to be compliant.
