When did GDPR come into effect?

GDPR came into effect on May 25, 2018. This date marked the beginning of a new era in data protection across the EU. Where all organizations handling the personal data of EU residents were required to comply with the regulation’s stringent requirements. GDPR replaced the earlier Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC- introducing tougher data protection standards, enhanced rights for individuals and significant penalties for non-compliance. The regulation’s implementation followed a two-year transition period that began when GDPR was adopted on April 27, 2016.
