LoginSetting up a new wireless router and getting your device online only takes a few simple steps:
Unbox your router and locate the default login information. This is usually printed in the user manual or on a sticker underneath the device.
Test your internet connection by plugging the Ethernet cable directly from your modem into your computer or laptop.
Connect the router to a power outlet and allow it a few moments to start up.
Attach the Ethernet cable to the router’s WAN or Internet port—this port is often highlighted with a unique color or label.
Locate the router’s default Wi-Fi network name (SSID). It is typically based on the router’s model name. If you can’t find it, refer to the user guide.
Once connected, you’re ready to access the router’s admin settings and finish the configuration process.
The admin panel is where you manage everything related to your network. From here, you can adjust system settings, customize your Wi-Fi, enhance security, and even change the router’s default login credentials.
Tip: Always have your router’s model-specific login details available. You can find them on the back of the device or through the manufacturer’s documentation.
To open the admin dashboard:
Launch your preferred web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari).
Enter 192.168.188.1 into the address bar.
If the page does not load or you receive an error message, there are two possibilities:
192.168.188.1 is not your router’s gateway IP, or
Your router may need a factory reset.
You can also verify the correct local IP address through your computer’s network settings.
Once you successfully log in, you will be able to change:
Wi-Fi network name (SSID)
Wi-Fi password
Router admin username and password
Internal IP addresses and DHCP settings
Connected device permissions
And many other advanced options
Your router’s login credentials should be protected at all times. Avoid sharing them with anyone who does not require administrative access.
For best security:
Change the default username and password immediately after your first login.
Use a strong, unique password that cannot be easily guessed.
Unauthorized access can disrupt your home or office network, compromise your security, and potentially expose your devices to malicious activity. Likewise, make sure your Wi-Fi network itself is password-protected so that no one can hijack your internet connection.
192.168.188.1 is a private IP address commonly used as the default gateway for many routers. An IP address consists of four number groups ranging from 0 to 255. Private IPs operate within your internal network and are different from public IPs.
Your public IP is visible to websites and online services.
Your private (gateway) IP, such as 192.168.188.1, is used inside your network so your router can communicate with connected devices.
Devices that typically receive data through your router include:
Laptops
Desktop PCs
Smartphones
Tablets
Smart home devices
Most routers assign a series of local IP addresses based on the gateway. For example, if the default gateway is 192.168.188.1, connected devices may receive IPs such as 192.168.188.20, 192.168.188.35, and so on.
The same default IP is often shared across many devices from the same manufacturer. In fact, even different brands may use 192.168.188.1 as their standard gateway. Popular manufacturers that commonly assign this IP include:
